ANGELS OF NO MERCY was the first solo show of Alda Nuvia. The show opened Sept 2nd, 2017, at the Sacramento Latino Center for Arts and Culture. It featured work in graphite and ink, depicting warrior women in patterning based on Art Deco, Yaqui Native and geometric design to create a biomorphic dynamic of the female form. “Angels of No Mercy” was an exploration of the warrior within women. Through art deco style patterning rendered in metallic graphite and ink, armor and masks were created and morph with the flesh of the figure, both shielding and canonizing the Angel. The work is about the many layers women wear in order to survive daily life, layers that shift and change, constantly moving to expose and protect, wearing the heavy, stone-like city scapes that crown their heads with ease.
